Message of Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj on Guru Purnima — “Preserve traditions, but also protect the environment; to safeguard future generations, we must protect both nature and culture.”

On the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj, President of Parmarth Niketan and Parmarth Peethadhishwar, extended heartfelt Guru Purnima greetings and blessings to all devotees in India and across the world connected with Sanatan culture.

Pujya Swamiji said that Guru Purnima is not merely a sacred festival to express reverence and gratitude towards the Guru, but it is also a divine opportunity to connect life with completeness, surrender, and service. The Indian Guru-Shishya tradition not only imparts knowledge but also inspires us to live a balanced life in harmony with nature, culture, and the entire creation.

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima Mahotsav, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj paid homage to Adi Guru Shankaracharya Ji, Maharishi Ved Vyas Ji, the entire Guru Parampara, Acharyas, Paramacharyas, and the complete tradition of the Divine lineage. He said that today’s festival is the festival of the Guru, Guru Purnima, and the festival of attaining fullness. It is the festival of surrender, gratitude, and fulfillment.

He said that we must be grateful as well as experience the fulfillment of life. Gratitude is towards that divine tradition because of which we exist today, and the experience of fulfillment comes from knowing that by their grace, life experiences divinity. Whatever we are experiencing is all due to the grace of those great souls.

He said that this festival is a celebration of becoming pure and making life blessed. Today is the manifestation day of Maharishi Ved Vyas Ji. This day is an opportunity to merge into the divine rhythm and the supreme rhythm.

Pujya Pad Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shukdevanand Ji Maharaj used to say — “Jeevan Mukti soi, mukti mare na mukti hoy.” He gave this mantra and made people experience its essence. The essence is to experience life in such a way that one feels deeply connected with the grace of the Divine.

Pujya Swamiji said that a person becomes a slave to their desires and attachments. Disappointment and sadness arise in life when one does not walk on the right path. When there is one thing within and another outside, problems naturally arise; but solutions are found by those who perform every action considering it as an offering to the Divine.

He shared that 56 years ago, a beloved saint at Parmarth Niketan used to sing during prayers:

“Main nahi, mera nahi, ye tan kisi ka hai diya.
Jo bhi apne paas hai, vo dhan kisi ka hai diya.”

Pujya Pad Swami Bhajananand Ji Maharaj also used to sing daily with deep devotion — “Ram ka naam lekar jo mar jayenge…” All those great souls understood the essence of life. When we experience this truth in our own lives, small matters no longer disturb us. In reality, these small things make us small.

Guru Purnima is the festival of rising above humility and weakness. The one who lifts us beyond these limitations and embraces us is the true Sadguru. When we forget our true nature, all kinds of bondages surround us. Guru Purnima is the festival of liberation from all such bondages and stresses.

Pujya Swamiji said that Guru Purnima means the dawn of life, the presence of light in life, and the manifestation of that divine light. Light is life and darkness is death. Birth is given by the mother, and when life receives its true direction, Guru Purnima happens. It is the festival of belonging to the Divine. When surrender arises, distractions disappear, darkness fades, and the fog clears — that is Guru Purnima.

He said that bringing one face-to-face with one’s own true self is Guru Purnima. Guru Purnima is not a festival of external decoration, but of adorning and transforming the self. Indian consciousness is not a celebration of clothes, but of actions.

On this sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, Pujya Swamiji blessed the global Parmarth family through an online platform. Devotees from across the world offered their heartfelt pranams and greetings on Guru Purnima. Accepting their devotion, he prayed to Maa Ganga for everyone’s well-being and said that wherever they are, they should continue serving humanity through their Time, Talent, Tenacity, and Technology.

He called upon everyone to preserve traditions while also protecting the environment. He said that to protect future generations, we must protect both nature and culture. Only when our culture remains safe and nature is preserved will the future of coming generations be secure.

He said, “On Guru Purnima, plant a tree in the name of your divine Sadguru. This is the highest form of Guru Dakshina.” A tree is a living symbol of our reverence towards the Earth, our responsibility towards future generations, and our commitment to living the teachings of the Guru.

Pujya Swamiji said that tree plantation is not merely an act of environmental protection, but a resolve to protect life, culture, compassion, and the future. The Guru connects us, awakens us, and guides our lives. Moving forward on this path, if every individual plants a tree and takes responsibility for its care, then this Guru Purnima can truly become auspicious for the Earth, humanity, and the entire creation.
