Special Plenary Session Explores Conscious Living and the Science of Wellbeing

At the heart of Day 5 was a powerful Wisdom Talks Spiritual Plenary titled The Chemistry of Conscious Living: Neuroscience & Ayurveda for Our Brains, Our Bodies and Our Future, featuring renowned speakers Dr. Sanjay Manchanda, Dr. Padma Nayani Gadhiraju and Dr. A.V. Raju, moderated by Stewart Gilchrist.

The discussion explored the powerful intersection between ancient wisdom traditions and modern science, highlighting how Ayurveda and neuroscience together offer a deeper understanding of how our thoughts, habits and lifestyle influence the health of both the brain and the body.

Speakers emphasized that conscious living through practices such as yoga, meditation, breathwork and mindful nutrition can transform not only individual wellbeing but also the collective health of society.

Dr. Sanjay Manchanda shares “It is in the lineage that everybody studies ayurveda. We have a clinic in Hyderabad and have facilities for 100-150 people. We do everyday consultations, and we are going to start an educational institute for those who want to learn ayurveda. We treat so many conditions that we deal with such as neurological disease.

He further adds “ the treatments mainly it is of two types, For the good energetic person and low energetic person. Whoever cannot do the panchakarmas in which we would apply so many things and take out toxins, whoever is strong we will do this. For other people we would give the herbal and mineral things which treat the diseases.”

Dr. Padma Nayani Gadhiraju shares, “I visit different countries, and I have seen different kinds of disabilities and diseases which were impossible to cure. I always suggest that before the disease exists, we must prevent it. This is our main motto and panchakarma does that. These are the 5 ways of detoxification. Though people are in good condition they still come for panchakarma. Ayurveda tells us we don’t wait for the disease; we don’t let the disease come to us for prevention. Everybody must learn Ayurveda, it is for your own sake and for your society. Ayurveda teaches you right from what to eat and how to sleep. We teach this to the people that come to the clinic.” Ayurveda is a very old and ancient science approximately around more than 5000 years.

Ayurveda is about prevention and those days through the prevention, all these diseases that were not existing and everything was existing but people had good immunity. Only kings and royal people used to take panchakarma because it was a very luxurious treatment, filled with oils and different other herbs which give you rejuvenation and your body feel relaxed. “

Dr. A.V.Raju, shares “Over time I have explored different methods of healing and teaching to help people in the way I can help myself. One of things I worked with was biofeedback which will pick up various brain waves and help them train in various ways as well as push them a little using magnetism and sound and light. In the last 10/15 years, I have found the use of light in particular infrared light is very powerful for the brain. It feeds the brain which gives more energy to the brain. This is a way of bringing modern technology to an ancient understanding.”

He further adds “Different patterns of meditation and activity can be better captured in the brain in the last few decades. There has been a lot of progress in seeing from the more materialistic brain point of view that there is all this correspondence activity in the brain and also some better understanding on how we can actually use that knowledge to take things further. One of my interests is to merge the ancient wisdom with some modern wisdom in a way that is safe and effective.”

Pujya Sadhvi Bhagwati Saraswati ji shares: We gather here today just two more days left till yoga festival ends. We have been meditating, celebrating, on the mat, off the mat, eating and doing so much Yoga and diving deeply into philosophy, we have been praying together, pledging together, dipping in Mother Ganga together, and now just two more days. As I said at the beginning we are here because we are called to a higher truth, we are called to the opportunity, the invitation of our own awakening, own enlightenment our own highest truth. We are not hear just learn breathing techniques or wonderful philosophy or how to keep well in our body and mind, but we are here to experience that freedom, that this is the land of.”

She further adds: “As we sit at the feet of Shankar Bhagwan, Lord Shiva, and as we began this evening singing to Shiva I am reminded of this sacred mantra that we chant every night here at the end of yagna, at the end of all of the divine ceremonies, a mantra that is chanted by people across the country and world. One of the most fundamental powerful mantras for freedom called Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. Om Tryambakam Yajamahe, Sugandhim Puṣṭivardhanam, Urvarukamiva Bandhanan, Mṛtyormukṣiya Mamrtat. In this Mantra dedicated to Lord Shiva, this mantra of freedom, there is a line that says make me like that fruit that unlike any other fruit or vegetable, when its ripe you don’t have to pull it, it’s not like yanking a cucumber of a vine or apple of a tree, it is a fruit that when ripe automatically it drops divine.  As we do our yoga, as we do our meditation and perform or prayers, pujas and dips in ganga, and as we pray for that higher state of liberation, that higher state of freedom, of awakening, this mantra reminds us it is not about what I am pushing away its but how ripe I become, a spiritual path, path of freedom. We are not pushing things away, we are not pushing away the world, our jobs, families or action, we are embodying it.

Let us together chant to Shakar Bhagwan and allow that love, allow that bhakti to fill us, ripen us to free us.”
